Standard 1/2" board can droop between joists over time, especially on 24-inch centers or under insulation weight. For ceilings we specify sag-resistant panels or 5/8" board, which hold a flat plane far better across the span. Correct board choice up front is the single biggest factor in a ceiling that does not develop waves or seam ridges.

Rather than chasing endless cracks, we take the failing ceiling down, verify the joists, and hang new gypsum board for a stable, modern surface. Butt joints on a ceiling are the most likely place to telegraph, so we back-block or stagger them and float the compound wide to hide the buildup. The field is taped with paper or mesh, coated in successive passes, and sanded to a Level 4 or, on request, a Level 5 finish. The finished ceiling is then primed and ready for your paint.
